Infrared Cameras
Whether you want to use an infrared camera or an infrared video camera, the truth of the matter dictates that the use of infrared cameras is markedly different from the use of any other kind of camera or video camera. Many hobbyists believe that their ability to take great pictures or videos will also translate in their ability to properly use and interpret the images taken with infrared cameras. This is not necessarily the case! This kind of photography is entirely different from any other kind of picture taking, and while everyone can point and click, not everyone can select the proper subjects and interpret the findings. This kind of photography is not usually done for pleasure but almost always for business and sometimes even in conjunction with life saving rescue missions, where the correct interpretation of an image could mean the difference between life and death

Since infrared cameras take advantage of infrared radiation, they are less complex when it comes to finding a good light source. As a matter of fact, there are times when a nearby artificial light source may actually negatively impact the veracity of the images. While the best infrared camera models will seek to minimize this kind of interference, user error will cancel out any technological advances and to this end there are specified training sessions set up for those using infrared cameras.
Many professionals are surprised when they realize that before they even get to touch or handle any of the infrared cameras that may become part of their jobs they will need to learn some theoretical aspects of infrared technology. Only with this knowledge will they be able to properly use an infrared wireless spy camera or any other kind of infrared imaging device. Interpreting the pictures is just as important as properly handling the equipment. Knowing what a thermal signature means in the conjunction with a search and rescue mission will help a photographer to point a crew to the proper cave in the ice and not send them in there surprising a hibernating bear, but instead rescuing a stranded hiker who sought shelter from a snowstorm. |
